Welcome to First Grade!
It is going to be a great year. I have planned a fun and exciting year of learning for your students!
This is my seventh year teaching and fifth year at Westbrook. I am from
Troy, Ohio. I have a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education (K-3), a Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction and a Curriculum and Instruction Administrative License . I have taught first grade for three years and previously taught kindergarten for two years in Charlotte, NC. Teaching is my passion and I cannot wait to work with our students!
First grade is an exciting year filled with many expectations. The students will be using phonics and reading strategies to build their literacy skills. They will practice blending sounds, sight words, fluency, comprehension, and making connections. In math, students will be learning math facts, place value, time, etc. Students will also start to write detailed stories with a beginning middle and end.
Your child will have many opportunities to grow academically, socially, and physically over the next year. You will be amazed how much your child will learn throughout the year! It will be an amazing journey for us all. With great support and cooperation, we will have a very successful year!
